The herb, Ichnocarpus frutescens was found to have significant anti-tumor activity in-vivo. The results of the study showed a significant decrease in tumor volume, viable tumor cell count and a significant increase of life span in the treated group compared to the untreated one: the life span of treated animals increased by 73.95% with higher doses of the herb.

This is another study, this time from the Harvard school of public health warning that even moderate alcohol intake increases breast cancer risk. Be sure your folate levels are sufficient if you drink alcohol, but don’t overdose on folate either as that may also increase cancer risk. Talk to your health care provider to help determine the proper folate dosage for you. It will depend on the amount of alcohol consumption and other factors such as other prescription medications, diet and lifestyle factors that can reduce folate levels.

Hopefully this analysis of the literature will allay fears about using antioxidants in conjunction with Chemotherapy or Radiation treatment for cancer.
Noted oncologist Charles B Simone MD and his colleagues searched Medline and Cancerlit and came up with 280 peer-reviewed studies on the concurrent use of dietary supplements including antioxidants with chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The studies reviewed included 50 human studies involving a total of 8,251 patients. They found that the antioxidants and other nutritional supplements did not interfere with treatment, and that they enhanced the effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In 47 of the human studies, nutritional supplements were found to be protective to normal cells and tissue, and also reduced many of the serious side effects of the conventional treatments. In 15 of the human studies, 3,738 patients treated with supplementation had increased survival. This is rare for any cancer outcome

An herbal formula containing cinnamon, paeonia, moutan, persica and hoelen significantly reduced brain cell death in rats following a stroke. The researchers found significant anti-inflammatory effects of the combination.

Adzuki beans were found to be estrogenic and to promote the growth of breast cancer tumor lines in vitro. This does not mean that you should never eat Adzuki beans. In fact, if you do not have cancer they can be useful for many things, including detoxification and infertility. Talk to a knowledgeable nutritionist to see if they are appropriate for you in your case.

A product that combines Nattokinase and Pycnogenol (Flite tabs) was shown to completely prevent a type of dangerous blood clot called a deep venous thrombosis (DVT). In the study, none of the group taking the Flite Tabs had DVT’s, but 5 % of the control group did. Since DVT’s can be life threatening this is very significant. You should consider taking Flite Tabs on any flight over 2 hours. Remember to do various leg exercises during the flight as well.
The other option is to take Nattokinase and Pycnogenol separately, but the exact dosages are not disclosed by the company that makes the product.

Several studies imply that removing the fat from milk can contribute to health problems. Just in terms of nutrient value, full fat milk contains B vitamins, zinc and non-fat milk has none. We have listed below some studies that show some of the other problems that have been associated with fat free milk. Although we don’t commonly think of milk as therapeutic from an Oriental Medical perspective (likely a cultural phenomenon due to lactose intolerance), there is a definite bias against denaturing foods.
There is a strong correlation between non-fat milk consumption and prostate cancer

Also worse for the lactose intollerant, since lactose is more concentrated in non-fat milk It may also contribute to homocystenemia
”For ischemic heart disease milk carbohydrates were found to have thehighest statistical association for males aged 35+ and females aged 65+. Inthe case coronary heart disease, non-fat milk was found to have the highestassociation for males aged 45+ and females aged 75+, while for females 65-74, milk carbohydrates and sugar had the highest associations…animalproteins contribute to homocysteine production; however, milk more thanmeat lacks adequate B vitamins to convert homocysteine to useful products.Lactose and calcium in conjunction with homocysteine from consumption ofnon-fat milk may also contribute to calcification of the arteries.”

Herbal medicine has been used for millenia to improve sexual stamina and vitality. In this study, investigators looked into how one of the herbs, epimedium, changed rat sexual behavior. They found that male rats given epimedium had more than twice as many ejaculations, much less recovery time between ejaculations and their libido went way up.
Though it is generally a safe herb in small doses, there are traditional contraindications to using this herb. Consult an herbalist if you are considering using this herb in therapeutic doses or for longer term.

One of the most severe complications of diabetes is kidney damage, which ultimately can lead to death. In this study, researchers found that turmeric, the yellow pigment in curry, may protect you from this damage. The study was done on rats exhibiting signs of kidney damage (determined by creatinine levels, urea clearance, presence of proteinuria, lipid peroxidation and other oxidative stress markers).
The study concluded that chronic treatment with curcumin significantly attenuated both renal dysfunction and oxidative stress in diabetic rats. These results provide confirmatory evidence of oxidative stress in diabetic nephropathy and point towards the possible anti-oxidative mechanism being responsible for the nephroprotective action of curcumin.
